Pleached Trees

Pleaching is a technique used to create screens or hedges 'on-stilts', formed from trees with a high, clear stem. Our pleached trees are grown with a clear stem of approximately 1.8m and the head of the tree is trained against a frame, approximately 1m high x 1.2m wide. We advise training the trees into a pleached form during the summer months whilst pruning them in winter. The best varieties of trees suitable for pleaching include Lime, Ash, Hornbeam and Beech although others can be used. Pleached trees are ideal for adding a formal look to a garden or for screening off areas above a fence.
