Seasons for Planting
Plants grown in containers can be planted safely at any time of year although if planting in the summer months you will need to water the plants regularly until established.
Plants grown in the ground are sold during the winter either as bareroot plants or as rootballed plants. As the name suggests, bareroot plants do not have any soil around the roots. Rootballed plants are dug up with soil around the roots and wrapped in hessian. Both bareroot and rootballed plants may be safely planted during the winter months when the plants are dormant, generally from mid November until early April but this varies each season.
If you want to order plants when they are out of season you are welcome to call the office but you will not be able to buy on line until a few weeks before the start of the relevant season. In these cases we will deliver the plant at the start of the season.
