Prunus Okame Pink Flowering Cherry Blossom

Prunus 'Okame' is a small flowering cherry, reaching a mature height of up to 6m. It produces clusters of carmine-pink flowers in early spring, normally in March, being one of the earliest of the ornamental flowering cherries. The dainty, green foliage appears in early April. Also provides good autumn leaf colour, turning vibrant shades of orange and red. Fully hardy. Prefers a sunny sheltered site and well-drained soil.

This very early flowering cherry was originally raised by Captain Collingwood Ingram in the 1940s. Prunus 'Okame' trees are small at maturity, producing a crown which is fairly narrow and columnar in shape. Gained the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
